Definition of Gel
Meaning of the Term as it Pertains to Mattresses
What is Gel?
A substance often employed in memory foam mattresses, gel is used to regulate temperature. Basic memory foam mattresses tend to trap body heat, causing individuals to wake up feeling hot. To solve this problem, mattress manufacturers designed and added gels to the foam to keep the sleep surface cool. Gels draw heat from the top layer deep into the mattress's core. This keeps the surface of the mattress cool and comfortable, allowing for uninterrupted rest all night.
Gel infusion offers additional contouring support. More responsive than traditional memory foam, gel forms a body-hugging cradle, which keeps the spine in place throughout the night. The substance also absorbs motion, which allows for a partner to move without waking the other person.
