But don’t worry if you miss out on Black Friday sales. You can also score big by understanding how the furniture industry operates. Retailers usually get new styles of furniture in the spring and fall. You can often find steep markdowns in the months before the new inventory drops.  

For indoor furniture, check out stores near the end of winter (January and February) and the end of summer (August and September). For outdoor furniture, shop around near the end of summer when demand is low and retailers want to clear out their stock.  

The good news is you can almost always find a great deal on furniture. You’ll get better results if you’re patient and flexible. If you find a can’t-live-without-it sofa and you’ll be devastated if it goes out of stock, you might end up paying more. However, if you choose two or three sofas you love, you’ll probably be able to find one of them on sale.
