Color of the Year 2020: Classic Blue

Posted In Design - 02/25/2020

Picture a crystal clear night sky at dusk, a deep blue shade that fills the night with intrigue.  Such is Classic Blue, the color of the year for 2020 as determined by the Pantone Color Institute.  This color can be exotic or nostalgic.  Both serene and assertive it sets the stage for any number of styles.

While it is a touch lighter than navy, Classic Blue is still deep and rich enough to be considered a universal neutral that pairs with just about any other tone.

Warm it up by pairing it with sandy taupes and beigey tans, keep it cool with slate grays and laguna greens.

On living room furniture or outdoor seating, this saturated shade has real staying power.

Create contrast with crisp clean white, while accenting with fiery corals and watery aquas would add a tropical feel.

Already have your sofa set and just want to update with a splash of blue?  Add patterned throw pillows and blue paint on the accent walls.

Not in mood to paint?  Go ultra-minimal with a throw, a pouf, and a blown glass vase.

Looking for larger accents?  Try pairing an abstract art piece with a saturated blue area rug to update your space in no time.

Freshen up your kitchen with a mix of classic blue chairs, a crisp white table and pale marine blue walls.  Finish with a blue and beige patterned area rug and top it off with white and blue tableware plus a spring green hydrangea floral arrangement.

An ideal color for kid’s spaces, a kids bedroom set Classic Blue is as at home in girls rooms as it is in boys. This color will grow with your teens and tweens. Depending on the look you are going for, this lovely neutral shade can be accented with pastels, brights or muted tones.  If you are already happy with your furniture pieces, consider updating the room with new kids bedding, fun accent chairs, and décor.

Drink in this dusky, creamy blue.  Create a fresh new look by using it as a foundation in the for your room or as an accent to your existing interior design.
