IKEA

The World's Biggest Furniture Company

Ingvar Kamprad founded IKEA as a mail-in company in 1943, selling pens and wallets. His success led to an investment from his father, who helped Kamprad establish IKEA as a furniture company in 1948.

Today, the company that started from such humble beginnings in rural Sweden is now the largest furniture retailer in the world, with over 460 IKEA stores spread across 62 markets.

The IKEA Business Idea

The vision of IKEA remains the same as when Kamprad first envisioned it: to provide quality and comfort at affordable prices. This company has always strived to produce well-designed, modern, functional home furniture at prices that most people can afford. The company is also known for the famous "assembly required" Scandinavian design, a feature that allows them to keep their prices exceptionally low.

More Than a Retailer

The "IKEA experience" of walking around a 300,000 to 400,000 square foot showroom is unlike any other, and the vast array of furniture (including outdoor furniture and complete furniture sets) and home accessories has made the store the ultimate one-stop-shop for furnishing, accessorizing, and decorating every single nook and cranny in your house.

IKEA collections feature furniture for every room of the house, including complete bathroom and kitchen sets with appliances, textiles, lighting, storage solutions, kids' furniture, and accessories.
