Flatweave Baluch Rugs

Baluch Type Khordjin
Baluch Type Khordjin
This is a double bag that was made by the Baluch most likely for use with a mule. The bag is full and intact except for the goat hair loops that closed this bag. Most commonly tribal bags use a loop and slit closure but this bag had interlocking opposing loops. Virtually every group from Arabs in Saudi Arabia to the Shahsavan, Kurds, Afshar, Baluch and others use the opposing loops at least occasionally. What happens is that the loops are a major wear point and do not often survive with the bags.

This bag has exceptional color. There are two blues a navy blue and a blue green. The reddish orange is very interesting as well. The normal chemical orange in these bags is a rather standard acid orange which very distinctive. This orange may well be either natural or a natural and chemical mix.

Baluch Pile & Sumac Rug
Baluch Rugs: Baluch Pile & Sumac Rug
This is a very sophisticated rug in terms of construction. The field pattern is raised pile, ivory background is sumac flatweave. The end finishes combine supplementary weft weave with sumac and twinning. This rug combines all the various types of weaving that we are likely to see in Baluch type weaving.

Baluch Type Pile and Flatweave
