Definition of Bed Riser
Meaning of the Term as it Pertains to Mattresses
What is a Bed Riser?
Supports that elevate a bed, risers can lift beds to create additional space underneath or to reach desired positions. Bed risers may be adjustable or stackable in order to reach selectable heights, which typically range from three to eight inches. Memory foam mattresses do not require box-springs, so individuals may wish to use risers to elevate beds to common bed heights.
Bed risers come in two basic styles: block-like and pyramid, or cone-like. Typically made of wood or heavy-duty plastic or rubber, bed risers can support around 1,200 pounds. It may be difficult to match risers with bed frames. Many shoppers purchase bed skits to conceal lower portions of beds.
