2025 Color Trend: Earthy Brown

“Rich warm colors deliver cocooning, restful, and charming spaces and are perfect for creating enticing and sumptuous spaces within our homes.”
Ruth Mottershead, Creative Director, Little Greene

Truffle by STAINMASTER

Brown is the color of 2025, dominating both the fashion runway and interior design shoots. As its name indicates, Truffle is a deep and earthy brown that’s perfect for any space that can benefit from deep coziness — think living room, home office, or a quiet reading nook.

For a room color-drenched in Truffle, style the rest of the space with light wood furniture, cream tones, and organic materials like rattan and cotton that let the rich tone shine in all its earthy glory. If you prefer a lighter and brighter atmosphere, Truffle can also work in small doses to accentuate architectural features like mantels and fireplaces.

Elderton by Graham & Brown

Like anyone looking for creative inspiration, the team at Graham & Brown looked to the outdoors. In the English countryside they found the Elder tree, a native tree with distinct deep brown leaves. The resulting paint is a dark neutral that’s full of rustic character.

True to its roots, Elderton would be the perfect wall color for a dramatic cottagecore look. The earthy and classic hue can replace beige in a traditional or farmhouse home, paired with honey-colored wood furniture or a vintage wallpaper. Elderton can also add a dose of earthy charm to a modern space full of clean whites and grays.

Caramelized by Dunn-Edwards

Though it’s a part of Dunn-Edwards’s historic Then, Now & Forever® Collection, Caramelized is coming into its own in 2025 as the color of the year. Caramelized, a soft take on terracotta brown, reflects our desire to ground our homes in nature.

Use Caramelized like you would use a classic neutral tone like cream, beige, or gray. You can even color-drench an entire room, from walls to ceiling, without things feeling too heavy or overwhelming. We love styling it with darker hues like an oak wood dresser, navy cabinets, or charcoal-colored vases that can really pop against the soft hue.

Mochi by Little Greene

Though it’s similar in shade to Caramelized by Dunn-Edwards or Pantone’s Mocha Mousse, Mochi’s peach undertones give the light brown a delicate, feminine bent. It’s the perfect way to set the tone for everyday warmth, rest, and serenity.

The versatile Mochi works in both historic and traditional homes, as well as contemporary spaces. Try color-drenching the walls with Mochi for a sense of cocooning warmth or add more vibrancy and energy by pairing it with a patterned wallpaper. Because of its floral, rose-adjacent tone, Mochi works well with earthy touches of green, charcoal, and cream.

2025 Color Trend: Deep Red

“We’re seeing people embrace color like never before… Timeless red that creates an energetic appeal.”
Erika Woelfel, Vice President of Color and Creative Services, Behr

Rumors by Behr

Red is a truly timeless color — rich, alluring, and, dare we say, sexy. From a classic red lip to the recent Tiktok trend of unexpected red theory, red has both eye-catching flair and staying power. Now we’re taking this hue into the home with sultry Rumors.

Rumors is rich wine red with plum undertones that works even in large doses (unlike something brighter like firetruck red which can tire the eyes). Use Rumors to bring depth and character to an accent wall or kitchen cabinet. Or you can paint the whole dining room or home office for a super moody vibe. For furniture and decor, consider cream and gold accents that gleam against the dark hue.

Raku by C2

Would you say Raku is brown or red? Technically, it’s a dark red with brown undertones, mixing two of the trending colors of 2025 in one hue. The color and its name are influenced by traditional Japanese pottery, evoking Zen simplicity and meditative calm.

Because of its complex color profile, Raku can transition from whiskey brown to oxblood red depending on the lighting and nearby colors. So choose larger furniture wisely — like a dark wood dining table to bring out Raku’s brown tone or a burgundy leather sofa to highlight its red.

2025 Color Trend: Plum Purple

“This year, we really started on a more emotional level. We talked a lot about this need for balance and reassurance and we felt strongly that can be captured in the home really with restorative color.”
Sharon Grech, Color & Design Spokesperson, Benjamin Moore

Cinnamon Slate by Benjamin Moore

2025 has led to a profusion of food-related paint names, from Truffle to Caramelized to Mochi. Cinnamon Slate continues the trend with another color that has earthy brown undertones for a deliciously homey warmth.

The muted purple of Cinnamon Slate is a saturated yet calming hue. For a delicate and romantic air, pair it with pastel pink or cream. Or go for a nature-inspired sanctuary of pine green, dove gray, and moss brown. Either way, we recommend going lighter with the other elements in the room, from a pastel-toned rug to a bouclé sofa to a light wood table.

Purple Basil by Glidden

Purple used to be a color reserved for royalty – but Glidden is hoping its color of the year will give people the confidence to finally go for this vibrant jewel tone. The violet hue is all about opulence, drama, and homey coziness.

There are so many emotions that can be conveyed by the moody purple of Purple Basil. It can lean softer and more feminine when used in tandem with glam furniture and decor, like gold floor lamps and velvet upholstery. But it can also be styled in a darker and edgier way for the charismatic whimsigoth aesthetic with an ornate bed frame and Victorian decor.

2025 Color Trend: Ocean Blue

“As we seek a joy-filled life, this approachable and livable ultramarine creates a perfect backdrop for happiness in the home.”
Sue Kim, Valspar® Director of Color Marketing

Mapped Blue by Dutch Boy Paints

Dutch Boy Paints has a focus on creating simple paint solutions for young DIYers, meaning its finger is on the pulse of millennial and Gen Z trends. Their 2025 color forecast is a medium-tone blue that answers the younger generation’s desire for mental and physical well-being, sustainability, and a reminder to slow down.

The soft blue, featuring subtle yellow undertones, feels bright and energizing without leaning too far into a frenetic maximalist vibe. The one-coat color is a serene choice for color-drenching a bedroom — a place where a restful vibe is key — as well as kitchens, and modern living rooms. It also pairs well with wood, leather, and linen that add warmth to the cool Mapped Blue hue.

Encore by Valspar

Last year, the colors of the year were dominated by blues and greens. Valspar is betting that 2025 isn’t done with this trend. Valspar’s pick, Encore, is an oceanic blue with violet undertones that is equal parts calming and joyful.

The ultra-saturated Encore has a vibrancy that can read a bit retro, which is ideal for anyone with a lot of mid century modern pieces that thrive in a colorful atmosphere. And like most blues, Encore works beautifully in modern coastal homes in tandem with other cool tones, lavender, leafy green, and soft grays.

Unexpected 2025 Color Trends

“There was a vintage vibe that we kept leaning towards when we were looking at the palette. Nostalgia is having a big impact on design. People are craving those authentic pieces of the past in their homes.”
Emily Kantz, Color Marketing Manager, Global Architecture Group, Sherwin-Williams

Color Capsule of the Year by Sherwin-Williams

Last but not least, the paint experts at Sherwin-Williams have been choosing a color of the year for 15 years. To honor this anniversary, they’ve chosen nine colors for a full 2025 palette. The complementary choices range from dark brown to stormy blue and lavender — essentially distilling all of the 2025 color trends into one color scheme.
Inspired by trending styles (Art Deco, Japandi, and more) as well as the cultural shift toward unique displays of self-expression and personality, the flexible capsule lets you choose the combination that reflects your truest self. Opt for one color to fully color-drenched room or  choose a few to play off of each other as accent walls and decorative trims.
