Persian Miniature Painting: Shaykhzadeh Mahmud Bukhara
Attributed to Shaykhzadeh Mahmud Bukhara, third quarter 16th century
Origin: Persia, mid-16th century
Notes: This piece is very much in the style of Shaykhzadeh Mahmud. With picture quality such as it is, I see no reason to dispute Kuhnel. It is interesting to note that Kuhnel refers to the artist as Shaykhzadeh Mahmud. I should note that even though Kuhnel does not say the piece is signed, I suspect it must be.
Shaykhzadeh Mahmud was a student of Bihzad at the court of the Timurid Prince Soltan Hosayn Mirza Bayqara where he was known as Shaykhzadeh. In about 1529, he went to Bukhara where he was known as Mahmud Muzahhib.
