Probably Sogdian, Central Asia, circa 8th-10th century
Rising from the flat foot to a rounded body with angled shoulder curving up to the cylindrical mouth with everted lip, a simple ring handle just below the shoulder with upper cusped panel, slight splits, areas of slight corrosion
5¾in. (14.8cm.) high

Notes Some similar silver jugs or cups with the same type of handle were found in the district of Perm in Eastern Sogdiana and are now in the Hermitage Museum in St.Petersburg. More elaborate than the present example and with a more pronounced foot, they are dated to the 8th century. It is likely that the present jug is slightly later in date.
