Caucasus. Piles, small worn areas, corroded browns. Size 249 x 167 cm

On a red background art-typical ornamentation; Octopon with a majestic Lori-Pampak motif in a beautifully abrusted blue-green. On the longitudinal axis, flanked by hooked octogons, with set star-shaped squares. By deliberately restricting to a few filling motifs the powerful effect is skillfully increased. White main border with peculiar triangles or hand motifs and jagged star shapes in an early representation. Blue base off-white and yellow-brown zigzag inside hem. Equally thin, the age corresponding to good overall condition.

Antique Lori Pambak Kazak Main Carpet 12 by 6 foot
Antique Lori Pambak Kazak Main Carpet 12 by 6 foot from Dennis Dodds

A brilliantly colored carpet with excellent pile and strong graphics. The dominant white octagon contains an archaic "gremlin" in blue-green, surrounded by voluted arrowheads and kotchak elements. Small areas of pale aubergine point to an early date. This is possibly the largest, early example of this design group.
