The Bum Biter Baluch Hunting Rug

The Bum Biter Baluch Hunting Rug

4 foot 1 inch by 6 foot 8 inch.

A rug expert dubbed these backside biting beauties "Bum Biters." For hundreds of years the people of Khorasan and Herat, the historical East Persia, have created rugs that show similar iconography. Some call then animal rugs or hunting rugs. One could attribute this rug to the Chahar Aymaq. The wool and the selvage looks distinctly Chahar Aymaq. This rug is not tea-washed, but it is done in that style softer tones.

Antique Baluch Rug

Antique Baluch Rug

Antique Baluch with beautifully drawn simple pattern repeated and great color. Because of the sophistication of the color and the 4 cord selvage, one could attribute this rug to Khorasan Persia. The color is important to attribution as well. The maroon and light blue are the key. They look Persian, and the outlining seems Persianate in application as well.
