Definition of Polyester
Meaning of the Term as it Pertains to Mattresses
What is Polyester?
A synthetic compound used to make textile fibers, polyester is strong, durable, and resilient to stretching, shrinking, and wrinkling, which makes the material favorable to use in bedding items like sheets, pillows, blankets, and comforters. Mattresses commonly use polyester in their protective covers, and comfort layers occasionally use the material, as well.
Some mattresses may feature polyester cores in place of innerspring systems. Sturdy and supportive, polyester cores are created by thermo-bonding layers of polyester. Generally, polyester cores are found in smaller mattress sizes such as twin or crib mattresses.
