Definition of King Size
Meaning of the Term as it Pertains to Mattresses
What is King Size?
A mattress measuring 76 inches wide by 80 inches long, a king is the widest mattress size commonly available in stores. The mattress size is also referred to as a standard king or eastern king. Even the California king, which is four inches longer than the standard king, is four inches narrower.
King size mattresses are ideal for couples because they offer the maximum amount of space to stretch out. Each partner gets 38 inches of space, which is the equivalent of a twin mattress. King mattresses typically require two half-width box-springs for support. Split box-spring support allows for the foundation to be brought into the home more easily.
