Definition of Bedding

Meaning of the Term as it Pertains to Mattresses

What is Bedding?

Bedding is a general term that applies to the furnishings that make a bed comfortable such as sheets, blankets, pillows, pillowcases, and comforters. The term also includes mattress accessories like mattress toppers, canopies, and bed skirts. Bedding accessories like mattress protectors defend mattresses from stains and additional wear. Allergen-protective covers may also be used to protect against allergy-causing microorganisms that breed in mattresses.

In addition to adding comfort and protection to a mattress, bedding influences the style of the bed. Patterns on sheets and stuffing-style of comforters establish each bed's unique feel and set the tone for the entire room. Shoppers want to buy bedding that not only matches but fits the room atheistic. Most bedding must be purchased to match mattress size.
