Definition of Baffle
Meaning of the Term as it Pertains to Mattresses
What is Baffle?
A design used in down comforters to keep fill evenly distributed, baffle uses vertical walls of fabric sewed at the upper and lower portions of the shell to keep fill in place. The design gives comforters a unique channel appearance. Box baffles use the fabric dividing walls in a grid-like design, giving the comforters a quilt-like box patter.
Top-quality comforters use the baffle design. If the term baffle isn't specifically included in a comforter's description, it most likely isn't a baffle. Non-baffle comforters do not include walls for separating fabric and are simply sewn through. These sewn-through comforters are more common and less expensive than baffle.
