Is there a surer sign of bachelorhood than the black leather sofa in the living room (usually accompanied by glass-topped chrome coffee and end tables)? If there is, my friends and I can’t think of one. Almost all of us recall having the talk with our significant others as to why the leather sofa will not be moving into our new shared living space.
But as we see young men with stronger (and better!) design sensibilities, we doubt it’s going to be as easy for the next generation of women to have the final word on living room furniture. Which makes me ask: Does it have to be all or nothing when it comes to leather living room furniture?
I venture to say no, because there’s a wonderful middle ground to be found in leather chairs.
I think we can all agree that a black leather sofa looks perfect in ultra-modern apartments and city lofts. But if your significant other's black sofa doesn't work with your style, introduce leather chairs to serve as stylish accents paired with a coordinating sofa. If you trend towards a formal decor, a classic club chair makes a perfect complement – choose two for a matching pair. Or go with a pair of sleek armless leather chairs to work with contemporary furnishings. And don't be afraid to stray from the traditional black or brown leather and consider cream, white or even red!
When you choose both leather and upholstered furnishings for your living room, you’ll not only make everyone happy, but you'll create a unique, beautiful space that’s all your own.
